Finish nailgun nails on exterior trim
I have a Porter Cable finish nailgun FN250A. I’d like to use it on some exterior trim, even on some cedar siding shingle repairs.
The PC straight strip nails box says galvanized, but also says “not for exterior”. The Paslode brand also says galvanized but no mention of exterior use being okay or NOT okay.
If the trim is pre-painted, and I go back over the nail heads with a dab of paint ….. will these nails be okay?
What about on PVC trim….. without painting the nail heads will they rust and/or streak?
I already have a bunch of the PC galvanized nails…. don’t want to have to buy stainless if I don’t have to.

Have used them on exterior trim for years and years.
That being said after looking at where you live, I would go with the stainless nail!

I have the same gun, and Senco Stainless nails work in it. Pricey, but the ONLY way to go for Ext. in ANY thing.

I agree. Especially any cedar or redwood. I've used the Maze Stainless Steel and no rust or streaking years later on cedar work. Of course, you find yourself going around on the ground looking for still good ones you might have dropped! The possible callbacks and problems are just not worth the savings.
SS only way to go in PVC trim. Fill nail holes with white crayola crayon, if your not gonna paint. Invisible!!!!!!!!
Cedar plus Lawn-Guy Land = Stainless Steel.

What if it is painted?

I've been using them for years on painted trim with no problems whatsoever. I live on the coast, lots of rain and storms in the winter.
On natural cedar i use stainless.
