I have a boat dock with IPE (trade name Ironwood) decking. The dock was constructued in late 2000 and put in place without any finish being applied to the IPE. The wood has naturally “aged” and now has a gray patina. I would like to restore the wood to its original color (which is quite similar to mahogany) and then treat it with some sort of sealer to keep the original color.
I’d like help understanding the best products / methods for restoring the gray wood to its original color, and am very open to suggestions for finishes to apply. The challenge is complicated slightly, in that I prefer not to let any cleaner or finish run off into the lake if possible, so in this case “neatness” counts.
I certainly appreciate any help you can provide to a “newbie”. Many thanks. Jeff
