Hello. I’ve got a friend who is building a house using a lot of reclaimed materials (siding from old tobacco barns, old pine flooring boards.) She is having the floor put down soon, but does not like the appearance of polyurethane. What other options could she consider and what are the upkeep implications of something other than polyurethane?
Thanks!

I have used Tung Oil on an antique pine floor in the past with nice results. I don't remember the brand. Ask your flooring supplier for recomendations. Good Luck
*If there is a place in your area that specializes in log homes, that might be a good place to inquire about wood finishes. You can do a search on the internet with your favorite search engine using some creative terms and get some hits. A couple that I found a while back but then got side tracked and didn't pursue it any further:http://www.menco.com/http://www.suncountrylogworks.com/finish.htmlThere have been some disucussions in the past on similar questions but unless you search the Breaktime archives with some clever terms you are likely to be overwhelmed with things to look at.
*We did one last summer with Waterlox. It is gorgeous...
*Another vote for Waterlox
*Thanks for the responses folks. What is Waterlox and any idea where we could get it (house in in North Carolina)? Thanks again.

*DML;Just did my kitchen and bedroom with Glitsa - swedish finish. I put 2 coats of sealer down and came back 24hrs later with a final coat of semi gloss. Looks great and super hard! Have a 90# Golden Retriever. I'd recomend Glitsa esp. for high traffic, tough areas. It's not really a surface coat like poly it 'sinks in' and forms a bond w/ the wood. Needs a meticulously sanded floor and a respirator to put down but once its in place WOW!Will
*DML, I'm in the Chapel Hill area, and one of the lumber stores carry it. Woodworker's Supply is just up the road, and they have it too. Oh yeah, it's tung oil based...Let me know if I can help you out.
*Hey Bucksnort Billy. We're neighbors -- I'm in Durham. I think your personal e-mail address listed in Breaktime is outdated. If you've got a more current one please pass it along. My e-mail is [email protected],DML
*Hey DML, I just emailed you. PARTHEY!
