I have a question about finishing / protecting LVL.
I built a carport that has two doubled-up 20′ LVL beams holding up a conventionally framed roof. I originally planned to have all the LVL under roof, but got cute with some Craftsman details and extended the rafter tails about a foot past the edge of the roof. I knew LVL was not rated for exterior use but couldn’t help myself – I like Craftsman details.
I have only about a foot of LVL exposed to the elements to protect (x4). My questions: (1) Will LVL rot the way wood does? and (2) What is the best way to protect the exposed LVL? Because the beams are doubled-up there is a horizontal surface on top that can hold moisture.
In spite of the questionable application, the beams look good and I don’t want to be hacking off the tails in a few years because they’re rotten.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Oh yeah, LVL's will definitely rot. In fact, they will swell before they rot. Definitely not a thing to be left exposed.
I would cover it with coil stock in such a way that it sheds water.
Yup, flashing for sure on horizontal parts. Finish endgrain. If you do let it rot, make sure you do saw it off before the rest of the roof is compromised.
