I was looking at my code check for building (tauton press) . Did I understand this right. If I have a 10 foot wall with a drop ceiling and the drop ceiling has an 18″ space above it. Does there have to be fire blocking at the innersection of the wall and the drop ceiling???

In my area, that is the code.
in my area, if you build a 12 in kitchen soffit, fire blocking is required so a fire in the walls couldnt travel though the soffit in the ceiling joists. Without the soffit, the top plates would act as the fire stop.
