Not sure where to post this question.
I have bumped a section of wall behind the fireplace, out into the garage. This allows for a desk office area. The ash cleanout used to be in the garage. Since the bump out it places the cleanout in the residence.
With a future kitchen rebuild in the works and inspectors soon to visit I’m wondering…?
Is there any code issues regarding having a cleanout within the living area of a home?
I’ve seen many fireplaces in the center of a residence but never thought about the cleanout.
I intend to house the clean out within a future cabinet and duct into the garage for air, bad idea?

I'll be curious to see the responces on this one--I haven't seen that many ash cleanouts detailed, let alone installed.
Thanks for the bump.
Boh of my clean outs are in the house...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
ya... I didn't think it a biggy but being stuck in this house with this leg the ash door seemed to start beating...beating.. I gotta get outa this place.
I have heated exclusively with wood for four winters. I have a VC stove with a catalytic filter. I have an ash pan that collects the waste and allows me to keep the stove going. I start my stove in October and keep it in operation, day and night, until mid March. The ash pan makes that possible, but seems to be an unnecessary inconvenience. In the final home, which I am designing, I will have a cleanout outside of the house.
