I know that their are standard details for masonry construction of a fireplace. Does anyone know where I can find them? I need to know what steel is required in the footing and for vertical dowels. Any help would be appreciated.

This is determined by the load to be carried and the underlying soil type. I have poured one that was three feet deep and took six yards of concrete with enough steel to build a cage for King Kong. It was a big chimney and the soil was wet clay.
*We did one and it had to be 6.8" bigger than the fireplae footprint all around and 18" deepgood luck
