What’s the rule for firestops? Don’t have a code book handy on-site so I thought I would post here. Don’t want such a fundemental error in front of the Bldg Insp.
Site: New York State, residential construction.
Are they only required for balloon framing? I though they were required every 4′ of wall height.
Also do any of you use fire barrier sealant? Where? I thought it was only at penetrations through blocking/ firestops.
Big discussion during lunch.

Going on memory....fireblocking in all walls greater than eight feet high....sealents in all penetrations of framing.

Holy Cr_p! That was fast.
That's one vote for my cabinet guy. Is there any rule as to where is is in the greater than 8' hieght, or just: make sure no height is grteater than 8'? I thought there was a more precise schedule requirement. Maybe not.

There may very well be...I don`t know it off the top of my head. I normally center them in the wall...haven`t had any problems with inspectors...most are just happy to see them.J. D. Reynolds
