I have a lot of trim rot to replace for a customer, ready to start tomorrow. He calls and asks which is better to replace with FJ primed pine or #1 clear pine – he is willing to pay for either. I have no answer – which is better?
Seems to me that either properly installed (primed and nailed) is good

explain further - is Windsor a brandname fj or #1 thanks
They have trim moldings and one by and 5/4 standard widths.. Preprimned tow coat =s buffed. My painters have really like working over it and I had a scrap of 5/4 x 12 out in the swamp for a year with no distortion or failure.http://www.windsorone.com/

I think either is fine, although the FJ is already primed so you don't have to worry about that. Also, usually don't have to worry about warps, twists, and all the other "natural" features with the FJ. FWIW, fj may be considered "greener", making good use of smaller pieces of wood that might not otherwise be good for much else. Windsor is a brand of PFJ.
I completely agree with Piffin.
Windsor 1 pine is the way to go, if you're going to paint. No knots, a great prime on the wood, and quite stable, since its ( properly) FJ.
Gee, I just complimented U in another thread. Somebody is gonna think we are in bed together.

Want wood, here we have FJ clear cedar, but if he's willing to pay for clear pine, sell him AZEK, same price or less. You also have to see why all the old trim is rotting, if you can't address that problem, for his sake go with the AZEK.
I find that FJ material tends to show the finger joints over time, especially in harsh Southern exposure conditions. I went with Azek trim for my new home. It costs more, but it will never rot or split. If you need any color other than white, you can paint it with Sherwin Williams Superpaint.
