I saw something “strange” on Michael Holigans “You New House” show this week.
For those that are not familar with the show have a segment from a new house that they are building along with a lawn and garden segement, a mortgage segment, and DIY segment.
Anyway the new house that they are building is 16,000 2 story brick veneer house in Dallas area. It build on slab with pier foundation.
In this show they where installing roof and wall sheathing, OSB. They where hyping the products and did not give any details of the installation.
But I saw something that I had never seen before. On the wall corners the had vertical strips of black material, maybe 12 – 18″ wide. My guess is that it was “flexible flashing” as it appeared to have a little sheen. This was run before the sheathing was put up.
Also they a horizontal run along the top of the slab and the bottom of the studs.
I have never seen that done before. At first I thought that it was a neat idea to give a 3rd level of backup, but now I am not sure. Somehow it seems wrong, but I don’t know why.
Also, on the outside corner there was a 2″ gap in the sheathing after they where done.
