flashing glass block window in shower
hi all,
i was hoping to get some advice on flashing a new window in a shower. 🙂
i’m planning on bumping out the exterior wall of my shower, kind of like a large garden window or bay window, to provide a seat/bench in the shower. in this bump out, i’d like to build a large glassblock window. i’m planning on using schluter kerdi for waterproofing in the shower. i’m curious how to waterproof the “outside” of the house, and how the kerdi should meet/bond to whatever i use to flash the framing material? i was imagining i’d wrap the framing with sticky flashing tape, over/underlapping with the house paper (stucco siding). kerdi gets thinsetted on. should the kerdi cover the entire window sill, over the sticky flashing? will thinset adhere correctly to that?
a somewhat related question about the roof for the bumpout. i often see a little strip of metal flashing when a roof juts out from a flat exterior wall. is that formed by “breaking” or bending a flat piece of metal, or can that be bought at the proper angles for standard roof angles?
thanks a bunch!
