I have roofed sporadically over the years but not as my trade. I have a 5/12 gable end 24′ wide that I am butting a 9×12 addition to, and the original roof line is extending over half of the new addition. The other half of the new addition’s roofline will butt to the gable, sheathed in T-111. How do I flash to the T-111 plywood? If step flashed with bent galvanized, do I caulk it and with what?
thanks,

What I've done is snap a line somewhat above where the top of the shingles will end up, rev up the circular saw with a nail-blade and cut a 1" slot in the t-111 the whole length, then tuck the flashing in. Wear goggles.
There is no good answer. If you penetrate t-111 that makes up sheathing as well as siding, you create other issues. I nail the falshing to the t-111 with caulk behind it, and then cap that with a 1x4 or 1x6. The 1x should be a half inch up off the shingles at least and I use construction adhesive to bond it to the t-111 and nail or screw it tight. Then I run a bead of caulk down along the top edge of the 1x.
Then I pray that it doesn't leak
