tomorrow i have to install a busy crownmoulding which has egg and dart, small brackets every 5 or 6 inches, small recessed panels and beading into a oval shaped room appr. 13′ x 8′. i have 4 pcs of that crown with 2 different radiuses which makes sense because the room is oval. my biggest concern is to match the pattern when i install the last piece. any special way of measuring? i have installed plenty of crown in the past but never anything that complicated. projection and drop is about 6 “. thanks for any help.

Oval room? Is the customer's last name "Bush" by any chance?
I googled "circumference oval" and found some hits. Hope that helps you.

Run a scribe line on both wall and ceiling so you know where it falls. With flex crown you have compound stresses so it's a little more difficult than say a flat piece of base or casing.
In an oval or circular room the top will be under compression and the bottom will be stretched. If you get a heat gun and slowly heat the piece as you bend it to the relative final shape, and then have a helper hold the hot air on it as you place it, the molding will go up much easier and be more likely to stay put and not tear at the stretched side as has happened to me in the past. I would also run a small bead of PL adhesive just inside the scribe marks right before you set the piece into place.
As far as measuring for the E&D pattern to match up I would run pieces long and hold them into place adjusting accordingly until you are as close as you can get and then mark for your cuts. Any way you look at it it will be difficult to measure because you are measuring an elipse and it depends on where the E&D falls on the crown.
In cases like this I usually let it fall where it may and then get out the old Bondo, quarter inch chisels & gouges and exacto knives, carve it, then sand it out.
Let us know how it goes and post some picts if you can.
This stuff is magic..........
