Anyone have a similar experience…?
…refinishing floors, 3 coats in 3 days…ice in ice maker picks up odor of finish. DW used the ice and didn’t feel so good. Guess it could happen with paint, too. Never thought to empty ice maker as I prepped for the floors. Wonder what else it affects. I think the beer’s safe, though as a precaution I’ll open each and test.

Did you use the "low V.O.C." product(s) they sell, or their traditional finish?
Traditional.
I don't think a coupla bad tasting ice cubes are gonna make anyone sick ...
probably all the other fumes floating thru the air.

I gotta take this on faith, be/c I can't smell a skunk. DW said that the smell was gone. But when she opened the freezer she said the smell was intense. She thought the frig went bad...didn't connect it to the floor. I offered the ice cube/floor connection (beat thinking the frig was "bad" and calling in the repair guy) and since you're supposed to throw out old ice cubes regularly anyway, it seemed like the easy fix. DW said the problem's gone...maybe placebo effect, maybe not. Whadda I know...

If they last that long. Ice in the freezer is "vunerable" to smells, as the "frost free" feature on most freezers causes a melt and freeze cycle.
So, the ice gets to melting temp, and is subliming water vapor anyway, then the stat kicks in and gets every thing back down around 0º. Anything in the air/water vapor, then refreezes on the ice.
I've run into this with other strong cooking aromas in the kitchen.
Mind you, with summers as they are around here, there's not much "old" ice in my freezer until after Thanksgiving or so . . . Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
That's also why the new-new thing in refrigerators is to have two compressor/ventilation circuits; one for the freezer and one for the frig. That way, yesterday's fish and garlic pasta sauce don't taint the ice you put into your iced tea.

Well, it really helps the energy star ratings most of all; we consumers are finicky enough about the temps in the box and the energy use to acheive them, that jsut "bleeding" some of the cold from the freezer is just not good enough.
Now, the fact that they can market aroma control too, that, like most great marketing, is gravy.
It's a bit of a tribute to how "micro" some of our engineering has become, too.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
if it kicked out the smell that bad when opened it musta been the fridge then.
I know with certain cabs ... usually made in Canada ... the fumes from the finish can give me an instant headache if I unwrap one and stick my head inside to work right away.
I'm not one to be fume "sensitive" .... but those cab's can knock the life right outta me. Got to the point where I'll unpack as quick as possible ... cut off the item tag and stick it inside so I know what's what ... and take off the doors/drawers just so they can sit and air out before I wear them for a hat.
even 15 minutes makes a world of difference.
