I am in the final stages of construction on a new two story house. Typical construction was used including BCI floor joists @ 16″ OC and 3/4″ T&G plywood subfloor which was glued and nailed @ 8″ OC in the feild, 6″ OC on edge. The adhesive was a 1/4″ bead and installed on dry joists and in the groove (to create an air seal). Now the house has been dried in for a couple of months and the in-floor heat hooked up about a month ago. Now with the in-floor heat going the framing has dried well. The new trouble is the squeeks. To fix this we are removing nails and installing 2″ drywall screws near the nail locations. It seems the dryer the house gets, the more squeeks I find. I have been building houses for 20 some years and find an ocasianal squeek and ths is not the first house that I have installed in-floor heat. Do other readers have other cures or remiidies for squeeks? Next time I will screw the entire floor.
