I just got to installing 1/2 of a Jatobia 3-1/4 by 3/4 inch thick T&G floor this last weekend. With face nailing in the starter row and tight spots, I’ve got a few (hundred) nailholes as well as the occasional gap in fit. Nothing to worry about on a floor.
Here is the question. Filler. After reading Taunton’s Don Bollinger book on flooring installation I get the feeling that “Wood Doe Filler” is the brand of choice. (or the latex version) Described as a Lacquer filler that is mixed with the medium grindings (results of 80 grit sanding) it will fill & match the floor when trowled into the spots in question.
I’ve looked locally and I find only Opaque Famowood, etc brands. Anyone have experience with this “Wood Doe” Brand? Could I just take Lacquer and make my own amalgam of dust & lacquer? South East Wisconsin is my stomping grounds if anyone knows of a local “Doe” supplier.
PS it is truly an awesome floor! A clear matte Poly-urethane finish should bring the true colors home.

You can make your own filler from lacquer and fine sanding dust -- fill the holes before sanding and be aware that the filler slumps so large holes may need a couple of applications. The color will be slightly darker than the floor color.
If you want an excellent proprietary filler then TimberMate is the very best there is.
