Hi all, I am usually in cooks talk but have a question. I want to build some flower boxes. No problem there, my problem is how do I attach them to the house so the brackets don’t show. Pretend you are talking to a 10 year old! 🙂 Pamilyn

You can use what is called a "french cleat".
I can't draw one for you (yet).
But if you google it you'll get something.
Or someone else might come along.

Hiya Pam,

This should work for you, as Mike suggested.
Thanks guys, I will try to figure that out. Not too clear to me yet. If you need any cooking questions answered just ask!! Pamilyn
How can I get someone to cook for me?
;)
In all seriousness, if it doesn't make sense to you, shoot me an email and I'll try to clarify it for you.

You should use a table saw to make the cleat, but if you were careful it could be done with a circular saw or a jigsaw. I looked at the link ... you need to click on the "see diagram" links for a decent sketch.
Basically you start wioth a 1x4 board as long as the planter, then rip it in half so you have two 1x2's ... except that you rip it on an angle by tilting the blade.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
what are U mounting it to?
wood .. brick?
U could do the french cleat deal ...
or simply drive a coupla screws thru the back of the box and into the house.
U want more strength ... make the bottom so there's a lip under there .. like a kitchen cab with face frames ... then crouch down and drive a coupla more screws.
The French guys make it easy to take it on and off though.

O.K., I clicked on diagram, I think I get it. Thanks all. I will e-mail if I get stuck. THANK YOU. I hung a mirror in our bathroom using a similar system only it was metal, but I get the concept. Pamilyn
