foam to seal the concrete/wood below outside basement door

Our exterior dual in-swing basement door is framed into a poured
concrete wall (house is about 33 years old).
The construction …
Treated lumber outlines the rough opening on all three sides,
plus over the foundation sill, 2×8.
The slab was poured, and it covers the board along the sill,
so it is about 3″ of concrete floor over the top of
that 2×8
The slab goes around the two side jack/studs.
See pictures.
That lower wood is poking out of the concrete to the outside.
For 30 or so years, outside of this door there was
a wood deck at step out level … The deck is gone now
Hidden by the deck we now see this wood “ledger” cast into the
concrete. It is in really good shape – no rot or bugs. It is a
little dry.
There is one hole where a 1/2″ bolt was installed for the deck ledger.
(The other bolts for this deck were embedded into the poured walls.)
The weep holes you see are under slab.
We will be having a stone paver patio put outside of the door, and
will be covering the wood.
Rather than remove the concrete, and dig out the wood, and then
repair/replace …
The plan is to use a spray or liquid flashing to seal up the wood
and concrete to keep out water/weather before the patio goes in.
What foam would you suggest? (or, other solution)
This will be protected from the Sun
by the new patio which will be 1/2 to 1″ below door threshold.
Thank you!
(Eventually we will replace that door … )

Why are you going to wait on installing the new door?
Will wait on the door ...
Job1 now is the patio, and yard - mostly dirt after the deck
project (which sucked up a lot of $$).
Door/basement project has to wait it's turn. A twin door is
above it in the dining room, and also over-due for update.
Should be in shape to diy that in the spring!
Ok.
Be sure to finalize the dimensions and rough for your upcoming door.
It would be a drag to find out later you’ll have to “adjust” your opening and how it’s going to finish out on the inside.
These came up with some searching ...
Zip Liquid flashing
Flex Seal (interesting ... scary)
Great Stuff - Pestblock. There are several options from this brand.
Henry Flashmaster - could use in the cold (36F out there).
Henry 209xr - for wet, we are due a bit of snow
One thing to consider, the former deck allowed that sill to drain and dry apparently, very well. If you seal the area beneath the door, any moisture getting in there from above would not easily dry.
On the other hand, a recent customer used flexseal (spray) to cover a similar location before placing a flagstone patio. I was surprised how well it worked.
Ultimately you have to decide whether you'll be keeping moisture in or out.
The plan is to protect the outside area here from moisture,
and flash under door, over area, later on.
Under the slab is bone dry, thinking that 2x8 would be exposed
under the slab as well. Bone dry is good. No sump pump, no
sump well.
I've not formed/framed a new basement ... is it "normal" for
this sort of framing to be under the slab ..?
Just dig the thing out and patch with concrete. How long so you think that will take?
Forever ...
To guess ... the walls were poured, and the 2x8 were framed
in the opening, then the slab poured, so that bottom 2x8 is in
there pretty good.
I went with Henry 900. The 900 would/did
set up, or harden more than the 209xr
The application was straight forward.
Next - painted a few feet up on the foundation so
I don't have do do that after the patio is in.
NOTE: The Henry 900 tubes have an expiration date!
I bought
three tubes w/o checking that. First tube, smooth sailing.
Next tube - caulking gun cannot push it out of the tube. Happy
I bought a spare ... the third tube also would not exit the
tube.
Checked dates - the two trouble makers were dated march 2018.
The good tube, may 2021.
Went back to orange store, got a tube of the newer dated 900,
and lived happily every after. I did take the tubes of 2018 on the shelf, up to the
desk and explained they were expired .. hopefully they did not put them back
on the shelf ...
Many thanks for the replies!
