the hole is dug. pretty wet, tiny bubbles of water rising in a few spots.building a two story gable using a 6” icf block on a 6” bed of stone, i’m thinking of 2x10s 24” apart for the footing. does this seem adequate or overkill? thanks

Footing size is a factor of load and carrying capacity of the soil.
Most times 20-24" wide is fine, but I have done them 30" wide in wet clay

according to a test pit dug nearby by the septic designer,the soil is "olive,silt loam,firm in place,friable to crush,mottled,water seep @ 62""
that dosent mean nothing, septic people got their own way of classifing. is it sand, sand clay, clay gravel

can you contact a soils engineer who can state the approx bearing capacity of that?
