I am in the process of having my house plans drafted and I need to vent my crawspace which is 4′ tall to meet FEMA requirements for flooding. Orginally I was going to use the typical 45sq” vents but due to the quanity required I would like to use something a little bigger. I have see the SmartVent which would be a good soulition but I would spend over $2000 on vents alone. Not trying to be cheap but I would like to see if there is a cheaper option that would result in less penterations. Any suggestions as far as vendors or methods for venting would be appreciated. A Google search only turned up the Smart Vent I know there must be other manufactures out there.
Thanks,
Jeremy

You may be able to get your foundation certified ( by an engineer) as to its ability to withstand flood waters and thus eliminate the need for the venting. It makes no sense to put vents in a crawl space which FEMA states in their literature will probably become plugged in event of a flood.
