New earthquake codes require that single story foundations be underpinned with piers and extended footing sections for overhanging rooms; 15″ for overhangs and 30″ square for piers. When the cement dries, I’m told that shrinkage can be 1/4″ or more leaving the house to settle (sink) over an extended length for cantilevered rooms. Is there any way to prevent this or fix the problem after the required dry time? I think this must have been the idea of a some Civil engineer after a wild night on the town! Any ideas would be appreciated
