I will be building a house on a site where there is a solid very hard sandstone ledge about 8′ below nominal grade. This ledge is about 10′ thick & is essentially flat. It has additional stone layers below down 40-50′. Location is east central Oklahoma south of Tulsa. The site is on a bluff so I don’t expect a trapped water problem outside the foundation.
Has anyone had experience setting basement walls on something like this? It seems unnecessary to put spread footings on a monolith like this. Would you drill anchor bolts into the stone? This stuff has been there 200 million yrs & hasn’t moved in that time.

Our head building inspector allowed me to drill rock for rebar and form the wall directly on top. Even with my abnormally heavy (300 ton) roof load.
Your building inspector, if any, has the final call.
