I am looking for info/advice on building foundations directly on to ledge. My wife and I are beginning to design plans for a house that may need to be positioned on ledge, at least partially. Any thoughts on how to do this? Are there concerns with leaks, earthquakes, connecting, etc.? This will be in SW NH and we are trying to take advantage of the orientation to the south for solar gain, making a slab likely for part of the house at least, maybe keeping a half basement? Any advice appreciated.

Lew, I remember an article about this very subject in either Fine Homebuilding or Journal of Light Construction. I think It was about a year ago so the exact rag and issue exscapes me. Maybe one of our fine comrads in these pages could help. I know it exists. I remember the drilling of rock and setting of rebar into the stone to tie in the concrete. Get a good engineer for this one or a whole lot of learning could take place...the hard kind!
