I need some advice from anyone with more knowledge of construction than me. I’m taking out a wall furnace that was no longer safe to use from my 94 year old house. Upon removing the sheetrock covering the flue I found this, a 2×12 with a couple of 2x4s above it which looks to me to be part of the framing for the archway to the right. Apparently it was cut through to install the furnace.
My question is, is this structurally sound? And what can I do to adequately repair this. Thanks!

hire a professional builder
Based on the limited amount of documentation you provided and the type of broad help you're requesting, I recommoned you call a local professional builder.
Thanks
I did that and got the answer I needed. Thank you.
