Hi guys I’m new to the board and I’m looking for a book and/or a DVD dealing with framing instruction geared to a homeowner. I’m interested in everything from laying out stair stringers to roof construction. Anybody had any recommendations.

Listeners write in about removing masonry chimneys and ask about blocked ridge vents, deal-breakers with fixer-uppers, and flashing ledgers that are spaced from the wall.

Check the Taunton library. Generally, anything by Larry Haun is on the money where framing is concerned.
Ditto the Larry Haun suggestion.
Haun's "The Very Efficient Carpenter", Taunton Press, will see you through to the roof (hip and gable), including the stairs (many types). Wire bound for durability and ease of use.
Welcome to BT.
A Roof Cutters Secrets by Will Holliday.
It is a great book that has some framing basics for walls and floors, then gets into roof construction. It also has a section on some off the wall framing that you run into from time to time. Pop out windows, curved soffits.
