Framing on top of old pine hardwood floor?
Hi there,
We have an old cabin (1965) with original pine floors. We are moving some walls.
Is it OK to put the new walls on top of the hardwood or should the floor be cut out? Does this depend on whether the walls are structural?
The floors are in rough shape, but we plan to refinish them.
Thanks!

A non-load bearing wall can go anywhere. A load bearing wall can be framed on top of flooring and then supported below the flooring.
I cant really think of a scenario where you would need to cut out the floor except if it were rotten.
Pine hardwood = oxymoron.
Yeah - sorry... pine is soft
You're forgiven.
I wouldn't hesitate to frame right on top of the existing floor.
