how much should I pay him?
Honda EG 2500, maybe 5-7 years old, not much use- for Hurricanes, he got a bigger one. they list at $1000, sell on line for $825, on ebay new $550.
He does not want anything, but i do not think thats fair as it is a nice machine.

If he doesn't want / need the cash how about dinner for him and your daughter at a nice place.
If they've got kids you could offer to do the babysitting too.
Does the one he bought need a cover?, wheel kit?, or some new, clean, heavy duty extension cords?
The cash might make him uncomfortable, these might not...Buic
Sorry, didn't see your reply before posting mine. Still, looks like we're thinking along the same lines!
We do some of that now like keeping two grandkids for a week while they go on vacation- money can not buy that.
good comments though.
I just feel like I should repay him in some way even if cash/some cash
Maybe instead of paying him cash, which can sometimes be awkward, particularly if he doesn't want it, you could buy something for him/him and your daughter/the family. Possibly ask your daughter if there's anything he/they need or want for, say a couple hundred dollars, and buy it for them

Sometimes when I'm reluctant to accept something someone gives me, I'll tell them I'll trade it for a "favor to be named later".
Kinda like when they trade ball players for a "player to be named later"
There will probably be an opportunity down the road to do something for them....
If there are grandkids and all other options have been dismissed you can always add to or open a small savings account/buy a bond/get a small CD to add to at birthdays for the young ones. Many times with working young families this is always planned but never gets started.

Agree with beachbum on a savings account for the kiddies. Or for their next vacation maybe pay to upgrade to first class tickets or a nicer hotel.

My bargain sense says $325. Well... I suppose $275 would do in a pinch :)
