I’ve installed a set of interior french doors with “ball pin” latch’s (no astragal/no active handles) Time to install the door stops, should I keep the stop’s tight against the door (this makes it latch tighter , looks and feels better when closed) or should there be a gap for expansion?

bstock, set them tight up by the catches, leave some air at the hinge side so they don't rub. If you need adjustment later, turn down or up the ball catches to snug 'em up. If you're in a heating climate, a little loose now will tighten come july, but with the ability to turn up/down the ball, you should be fully adjustible.

What Cal said. The space will go away when humidity comes back around, you need to allow for that.

...and don't caulk the stops on the door side.
i usually leave enough room for the tip of my finger nail between the door, and stop. If the doors are unfinished you have to allow some room for paint/finish, as well as expansion/contraction.
