On a remodeling project that I recently finished, I have 3 roof planes that concentrate and dump into one central -shaped area on a high side of a lake lot. Knowing this would be a problem gutters were installed and attached to underground drains. In spite of these being pitched, these drains freeze up and cause this area to flood in early spring. What can be done to keep these drains from freezing? A deicing cable has been suggested but I’m worried that this will be insufficient to keep the 4″ pipe complcompletely from ice build up.
