If you read the instructions that come with the wax ring, they actually recommend attaching the ring to the toilet first. Not that I’ve ever done it that way. OK, maybe the first time.
Good story though 😉

Confession--
Just the other day I read that here or at JLC. Seemed to ring a bell from way back when. Apparently the wax rings come with a piece of paper that explains the "proper" way to install it. Who knew.
Holy Cow, I'm looking at one of my books and that's the way they show it being done! They show the bowl upside down while someone puts the ring on it. Then they attach the tank after they put the bowl down. I could see it being a little easier that way, at least the bowl would be lighter to deal with. Most of the time I'm usually setting a tank / bowl combo, so it's heavier, and just easier to lay the ring on the floor verses this method.
Why am I getting the feeling I shouldn't have started this thread???? (now I'm laughing at myself)
Have you tried flushing the thread? you know ... hide the evidence.
They can't get your Goat if you don't tell them where it is hidden.
Sometimes I'm merely just trying to stir some humor, ya know, beat the stress from the everyday struggle.......
I hear that , keep it up , it is heartening.

Is it possible to delete a thread? I tried, but it only deleted my first entry
Don't think you can delete the whole thread, they become floaters. Maybe call on the janitorial staff for help , they somehow manage to clear the pipes and delete whole threads. Actually funnier now ! ;-)

I guess there's enough "stick" to those wax gaskets which enable them to stay if you were to choose to do it that way.
But it just seems a little risky to me. I mean, once you lift the toilet up to set it down, how do you know you haven't shifted the wax ring by accident? Maybe it bumped one of the bolts and fell off? How can you see that from above while holding it?
I just thought it was a little funny. No harm done.
Bump
in my apartment maintance days, I remember one that they did not remove the paper before installing
That's good.
Have you ever seen those wall patches with the mesh attached to a piece of metal?
I asked a helper to pass one up to me while I was on a ladder and he peeled all the mesh off and handed me just the metal!! (had to be there I guess)
