FYI: StackExchange, the folks who bring you StackOverflow forum (home to thousands of geeks) have a Home Improvement forum at http://diy.stackexchange.com/ , using the same software.
A unique feature of the StackExchange software is that it encourages participation with a “reputation” mechanism. People get “reputation points” for posting, answering posts, and getting their posts “up-voted” by others. Of course, 1000 reputation points and a buck-fifty will get you a cup of coffee at McDonalds, but still, it seems to work.
The questions aren’t quite of the caliber of the ones here, but fairly close. Less chit-chat, though — it’s discouraged.
(Oh, and no captcha!)

I took a look over there. Looks like there are a few good answers and some pretty dumb ones.
For some reason scrolling was insanely slow, and I found that rather annoying.
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing a lot.
