Sorry Mike,
None of the above.
Only pictures that are mine were the one with Liz doing a slump test, another of the forming crew doing footings over compacted ground and the one showing the concrete around piping and rebar.
Thanks for the kind words, but as Jim said, the editors have a gift of making a silk purse out of a pigs ear.

*Yeah, nice article Gabe, its online too.crack free slabs
*Thanks JimGabe
*Good article Gabe! Lot's of good practical advice. If people will follow that advice , they will have much less trouble with their concrete pours!
*I appreciate the kind words,Gabe
*Nice article.
*Thanks, your comments are appreciated.Gabe
*Published author, cool!Gabe, i didn't see anything on adding fibers or spraying sealers--you don't use these?
*That's a separate article.Gabe
*He's stringing them out to make more $$$ (Canadian). ;-) Good article! I hope people read it. I was just explaining to a neighbor that you're not supposed to be able to pull concrete apart with your fingers.Concrete gets so little respect. ... and concrete contractors? ...
*That would be US $$$ Andrew and thank you for the comments.Gabe
*Gabe, One of my builders that I respect says that concrete need to have an expansion joint for every 100sf of surface area. That's if one does not want any spider cracks. He also says that concrete cracks inherently. I notice a lot of driveways that have been cut in a checkerboard fashion on a 45, then acid washed. I think that they are usually like four or five foot squares. Not only is it a fine look, but it probably rarely cracks. I assume the concrete is cut with a saw after it dries, or are the joints done wet?
*Greg,In controlled pours it's not unusual to have 20,000 sq. ft structural slabs without construction breaks. If you're looking at driveways and sidewalks, with freeze thaw cycling then a 10 by 10 section would be prudent.Sidewalks are tooled into squares and every 2nd or 3rd square has a construction break with and expansion joint.Slabs are cut with a saw and filled with caulking flush for a smooth finish.Gabe
*I finally got around to reading the new JLC, and I'd like to add my congratulations to those that went before. Nice job, Gabe. Andy
*GabeI've bookmarked your article. We are building a new house with concrete base. We will then be acid staining for finish so we need a good base. I'm in California, can you recommend any tradespeople here or can you give me advise as to how to find someone reliable. Many ThanksLisa.NZ
*Hi Lisa,Thanks for the comments and regarding choosing tradespeople for you upcoming project, you have to rely on the old standby, word of mouth.Ask around the neighborhood where you're going to build or any nearby subdivisions.Make a list of all the recommended contractors and then give at least 5 of them a copy of your specifications and drawings for a quote.Know what you want up front and don't be afraid to demand you get what you pay for. It's your house and your money.Best of luck,Gabe
*Thanks AndyGabe
