Have a 10×12 room between the kitchen and the garage that we are going to include in the kitchen renovation — at one time, it was breeze way, but is has upgraded walls and walls are well insulated.
It is a 1953 house that was custom built (slate roof) 2×8 rafers and 2×6 collar ties every 16 insches. We want to leave the space above the collar ties open to give the sense of a larger room.
2 Questions:
1. Because the gable will be exposed from the living area, want to insulate as best as I can — any improvements on this plan — 6″ fiberglass insutlation, covered by 1 1/2″ RMax running paralel to the ground, 2×3 nailed on top of the RMax and 1 1/2″ of RMax in between 2×3’s with beveled cedar attached to the 2×3’s?
2. On the exposed collar ties, should I just put corner bead on the 4 edges and spackel — want them to be more than exposed 2×6’s? Recently JLC had a deal on a guy that used auto body fiberglass filler — think I can create the same effect with the CB/spackle alternative. — tks — all teh best — Dudley
