We started the outdoor building season just afew weeks ago in Toronto
One of the first sevice calls was about rust bleeding through a cedar trimmed planter box .I used two nailers on the job ,one with standard straihgt 16 ga.so-called galvanized nails and the other is Bostich slant 15 ga nails . If you know if there are really good gal.fin, nails ,let me know. Many Thanks B

We usually use stainless nails when working with cedar that's going to be exposed to moisture. I've see too many issues with bleeding when galvanized nails were used. The tannins in cedar leach out & react with the hardware- not very pretty.

For air gun nails, I've been told they are assembled in strips and then galvanized. Thus, the small area where the nails are attacherd (in the strips) is not galvanized, and therefore subject to rust.
Sometimes it helps if you putty/spackle the nail holes. Otherwise, SS nails are best -- but they're way more expensive.
