I’m within 2 weeks of decking and Owen/corning 30yr. Arch. shingles. The roof begins with a 10’x36′ front porch that blends into the Gambrel roof. It’s a Dutch Design with two Dormers.
How would you deal with the transition between the upper steep roof and the long lower angled roof as I shingle? It’s a Dutch design.
Thanks,
Bill

The 2x4 width looks clean and solid. Considering the picture I posted and the one below, how would you make that kind of trim work?
The roof framing is 16" on center, with the dormers being 44" wide, and each has a 2x4 that is glued, ring-shank nailed and 3-1/2" screwed to each roof joist/rafter for added strength.
Thanks for the help,
Bill

I heated and bent my shingles when I made the turn. I didn't know if it would work.
It did.

As I read your Q you are asking not about that upper break, but where a lower pitcch porch roof ties in.
I do that with a flashing bent to the right pitcch. shingle up to the break, run a vycor along sealed to top of shing a couple inches, then place the flashing nailed at top only, then start shingling up all over again.
At that top break, I have heated the shingles to bend over, but generally I set anther eave edge metal and starter again there too, but not a full facial wrtap like Mike.

bill, we're talking about the upper break , right ?
another faux solution is to shingle up to the break and nail a primed and painted 1x4 right onto the top shingle of the lower steep pitch
that becomes your "fascia" for the upper roof.... run you drip edge over it.. and start shingling your upper roof
bending a shingle over the break is the intuitive way to do it... it works.. but it looks like shid ..

I don't think I've done one in the digital age so I can't find any pics. My methods have been to do the 1X and drip edge at the top of the steep pitch or preferably install a piece of flashing showing about 5" on the low side and extending about the same on the upper roof under the shingles.
All I've ever done is reroofs on this type structure and if there ever was a full cornice between the two pitches, it was long gone before I got there. Usually the last roofer bent the shingles thru the pitch change.http://grantlogan.net/
