Hi,
I’m new at this but here goes … I’m interested in finding ‘books’ or articles on construction of garages. There’s not much relating to construction of new garages or remodels (to a garage); lots of converting garages but almost no info on building one.
I’m in the process of converting a ‘carport’ to a living room for a house (1250 sq ft total home) and by code need to add a ‘off street parking area’ to this small city lot. I have the place for it and it will be an attached garage on the opposite side from where it is now. It will be about 22′ x 13′-6″ and just about any height (8′-9′).
Anyone know of a good book(s) or articles relating to this type of construction? I’ve assisted in building a house or two over the years (but no garages involved) and remodeled many houses and buildings.
Thanks, JPhil

A garage is just a small house. Any basic book on foundations/framing should give you the essentials. The main unique features are the large door (requiring a large header) and the slab floor.
The biggest mistake you can probably make (that isn't a code violation) is to make the ceiling joists too low to accept stock garage doors and openers.
