I am in the process of selecting a direct vent fireplace for our new home. A major concern is that the fireplace look as authentic as possible. I would appreciate any of your thoughts about fireplaces that look and burn in a realistic way. Thanks for your input.

I have 2 gas fireplaces in the present home. One Heatilator & one Montigo.
The Montigo was the best value for the money. Heatilator has a larger selection of fireplaces, the more you spend the better the fireplace looks. Overall I like the Montigo for looks ,but the Heatilator puts out more heat.
Check the btu rating before you buy if you want heat. But with more btu's the higher your gas bill will be. I would also buy the fan/blower with a fireplace, they do help! If you want a photo of each, let me know, will be firing them up for the season soon.Right after I blow-out the lawn sprinkler.
Just my 2 cents.
I like the Hearthstone free standing soapstone stoves........had two in my last place and am putting one in the cabin I am now building.
This one stove will heat the whole place most of the time. cost about 1800.00 but worth every penny IMO. .......ALL the heat produced goes into the room and it looks good with a stone backdrop.................
