What is the cost of gas and electricity IN YOUR AREA?
Without that any answer is menaingless.
.
Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Gas will generally be cheaper, if you have natural gas. It could be a bit more of a tossup with propane and a low electric rate.
But how important dryer efficiency is depends on how much you use it. If you've got three kids in diapers it could be significant, but likely not a big part of your energy bill for two adults.

In NW Ohio and MI(?) gas is generally cheaper to run; over the life of the appliance, it will more than pay for the price differential (typically $50 for any particular model)
Gas tends to run hotter, so it wrinkles clothes more.
Gas can produce carbon monoxide (although I have yet to test one with excessive CO), so be sure it is well vented
The "War on Terrorism" has failed - in part by narrowing our options to only the option of last resort.

In most parts of the country natural gas is less expensive.
