I need to replace my roof and while up there to inspect the condition of vents, flashing etc., I noted that the roof vent for the gas water heater is badly corroded. My house is 40 years old and this particular vent has not been replaced. The venting system is comprised of a hood at the heater which is in a utility room and vents straight up through the attic and the roof. Has the building code requirements changed since my house was built for such a system and if so, how do I determine appropriate requirements? What are good sources for materials and supplies.
Thanks for your wise council and help.

In general, if you just replace the above-roof vent with it's equivalent you shouldn't need to worry about changes in code. But you should check with your local BI's office to be sure in this case.
If you're proposing to replace the entire length of vent, though, you may get into code issues.
Dan,Thanks for your input. I think it only necessary to replace the vent. Tom
