Am working on a job in which an open air gazebo with hot hub is getting converted to a closed in structure with hot tub. The plan is for large wall to wall windows and a 10′ wide door across the front. The structure is 10′ x 14′.
The structure will be rebuilt with PT lumber. and interior finish will be t&g cedar. exterior will be stucco. the front top step is canteleivered from the mainfloor framing, with the entire floor being tiled.
some things in quetion:
1. with the structure being rebuild with PT materials, should that include the subfloor?
2. The topic of insulation has been debated. some have said yes some have said no. I won’t go into who said what, other than I feel it should be insulated walls and ceiling.
2a. VB yes or no?
3. I have big concerns about the cedar T&G used for the interior, with my worry being about swelling and buckling with all the moisture invloved with the hot tub. my plan would be to not install it tight but allow at least 1/16″ per board for movement.
I know that they use the stuff in outdoor saunas, but is their anything special about the product they use.
I would love to season the cedar with the hot tub in the structure already, but it is impossible to do so, because some areas there will be no accesss once the tub goes in.
4. back to the floor – there will be a floor drain ( the tub will be partly sunken – about 14″ and sitting on concrete slab ) and the excess water from around the tub will free flow to the concrete and follow a natural slope to an knock in the curb foundation.
my question is will the tiler be the one to slope the floor with thinset ( or whatever they would use for such application) or should the subfloor be slope via tapered shims on floor framing?
I think that covers the questions I have at this point, but others may come up, as I have never had to concern myself with a structure that will be so affected by moisture and humdity. I have recommeded exhaust fans.
anyone with any tips or pointers, will be much appreciated.

VB... no the structure needs to breathe... the hot tub will keep it all toasty inside... leave for material movement...
minimal insulation except for the tub box...
go all cedar.. leave out the ACQ.......
redwood or white cedar the floor..
set the taper yurself.. get it right...
SS fasteners...
