Hi. I have been remodeling and working on house projects all my life. ( a long time) I’ve been active in Habitat and as President, built lots of houses. I also last built or contracted out my last house here in Texas. During the years I’ve seen a variety of exterior frame construction techniques. Many builders use osb for corners only and foam insulation board elsewhere, then cover with house wrap. Others use osb all around and cover with aluminum faced foam insulation board or house wrap. The exterior of the house I’m building will have brick, stone and stucco. Also, this is the first house I will build with a tile roof, which adds quite a bit of additional weight. Do I need to consult with a structural engineer to ensure the framing and ceiling joists are sized properly and get suggestions re the use of engineered wood components? The framing contractor I’ve selected has a good reputation and has framed many houses with tile roofs, however, as the GC for this personal home, I feel I should know. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. It's good to have another voice from the Republic of Tejas so we can show these yanquis how to build houses. What part of Texas are you in?
I recently remodeled a ranch house that had cement tiles, and the framing for the 5/12 roof was 2x8 @ 12" for a 24 ft span (12 ft to the ridge). I would certainly recommend an engineer for the roof and foundation. I'm out of my element here, but I would suspect that you might have to use osb/ply sheathing on the entire exterior cuz the roof would be so heavy it could try to rack the walls out of square.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
