Hello everyone…hopefully someone will have some suggestions……
I have a red brick fireplace that I would like to , well, change the color of without going through the extreme of hiring a mason to tear down, and put up all new bricks.
I am shooting for more of a neutral color brick……….stupid question, are there special paints or stains I can use to accomplish my goal?
Thank you!

A mason-supply house should be able to sell you a product that will seal the red-brick and mortar, assuming it's in pretty good shape. There are lots of products out there for just this purpose. After sealing, you should be able to paint the bricks with any good quality enamel.
There are no stupid questions in building - only stupid answers.
Thank you for the info!
I've taken a few fireplaces and covered the brick with ceramic tile. Looks nice and can really update the look, if updating is what you're going for...
Thank you for the information, much appreciated!
paint
ceramic tile
granite
marble
cultured stone
metal
stucco
it's wide open
Excellence is its own reward!
One thing to consider is that whoever owns the house in 20 years may be cursing you for covering up all that beautiful red brick.... :-) See if you can come up with a method that's reversible somehow.
I have some exposed brick in my house that the previous owner painted a lovely shade of hospital green back in the 60's. Sure wish they hadn't done that.
