greeting all, I am bidding a residential home remodel and need to remove a closet and install open glass display shelves. rear and left side walls will remain, new glass shelves will be 12 ft. long and 2 ft. deep. l’m looking for a nice support system, non wood, something maybe tubular.
I’m in San Diego, am familiar with Louis & Co., and Bradley’s but can’t find anything in their catalogs. any other companies or web sites would be appreciated.
thanks and happy back to school shopping to all

Objets' too heavy to just have the shelves float (anchored in the walls)? A frame under the glass defeats it. Really heavy objects on glass have other problems.

A 12 foot by 2 foot piece of glass is pretty unstable. Hopefully it will be cut into two pieces.
You need to determine how thick the glass will be, and how heavily it will be loaded, thus determining (presumably the glass guys have charts) how many supports are needed.
Probably the simplest would be brass/aluminum rods inserted into holes drilled in a vertical support (aluminum bar stock?) behind the wall. Or make the support flush with the wall and part of the "effect".
Well, I just punched in some values in the sagulator:

250# on a 144 x 24 x 1.5" glass shelf is still bending 0.14"--so decreasing the span is clearly (NPI) needful.
You might browse the Häfele catalogs online--they have a pretty good selection of glass cabinetry items. Googling "glass store fixture" might yeild a good search for hardware that's used every day, too.

when I was doing some research on glass shelving I came upon these sites.
I know nothing about the companies.
going 2' wide may require some custom solution
