We are working on the design of our house (as we’ve been for almost a year now) and we’ve gotten to the master bathroom. My wife and I want a tub that will fit at least two people. We love some of the square tubs we’ve seen on pictures but we can’t ever find normal ones on websites, we only find some that cost $8000 or so.
I guess the questions is are we just crazy for looking at square tubs? or are we just not looking on the right place?
Thanks,
–Carlos

I can't help you with a site. However, I'd recommend you go to a bathroom showroom and actually get in the tub to see if you like it. Some are built for looks alone and aren't very comfortable. You may feel a little funny sitting in them, but you'll get a good feel for what will really work for you by testing them first.
Good luck with your search.
Good idea, we'll have to do that this weekend.
So uh..how often do have more than two in a tub? And who dives for the duckies?Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

hahahahah good point. We have never been happy with any tubs we've used other than huge whirlpools. That being said we have mostly used standard 60 or so inches long and 30something inches wide, and we've used a few big multiple people tubs, but we've never used a really wide or long tub, like 72x48 or something like that, nor have we used one of the corner tubs.
So the way we look at it is, we don't want to be unhappy with the tub once its all done because it would be virtually impossible to change without a bit remodel, so we want to make sure we get something big which we are happy with rather than be unhappy for the next few years we live on that house.
Of course if we get something really big then we need to think about the water heater and all that stuff......
There was a BIG cultered marble tub here when I bough this house, about the size you are thinking..I cut it up and removed it pc. by pc. it was HUGE and I worried the floor wouldn't hold it, and the Hot water was an issue..get an outdoor hot tub.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

No info on your whereabouts but if in SF Bay Area there is a store called Tubz. A whole warehouse of tubs to sit in and see in person.

If a shower can be built, why can't you have a tub built to your specs? They can be built of granite, tile or whatever material you prefer. I think if you check around, it might be the best way to go and the cost should be about the same as buying one.
We've considered that however we are a little unsure about what it will feel like to sit or lay on tile or granite or whatever we put there. Anyone here know what that feels like? do you just get over the difference in feeling?
If we do custom then we can make all sorts of shapes, would be pretty cool.
Tubs aren't that hard to build. I've seen them built out of concrete with tile on them. Mosaic tile works real well for the curves.
Just from it up and pour it. Is that a no no?
look at the MTI osiris It's practically standard in our houses these days.
I love their Elise but that price tag blows my mind.

Thank you very much, some of those tubs look great. My wife is gonna be very happy! and me very poor, hahaha :-)
You can find the Osiris as a soaker, no jets, for $1,800 if you're patient. Ferguson sells em.m------------------

I don't think there are any dealers in my city, but there is one within 3 hours, might be close enough.
We are looking at some of the square ones, expensive!!! but then again I have no idea of what I am comparing it to.
Just remember to figure in the cost of tiling any required surround. that can add up to equal the cost of the tub in some cases.------------------
