My casement windows have those concealed lever and slide type hinges, made of steel. I want to replace them with old fashioned brass butt hinges. Does anybody have a good source?
Thanks —

There are a number of ways to achieve a level foundation and mudsill.

You might find yourself replacing more than just hardware. I did this for a client and had to build new sashes to make it possble.
Piffin --
What issues required replacing the sash? Is there a problem with the opening/closing geometry? I'll measure and do some CAD drawings to check that out. The other problem I can see is hiding the dutchmen that fill in where the old hardware was. As this is all paint grade, that doesn't look too hard.

Part of it for me on that one was that the customer was a purist.
Modern casement sash have a sort of Z shaped edge that facilitates seating tight. Older hardware can require a flat edge on one side and a beveled edge on the other. Needs flat surfaces to mount to. Is less water and airtight than the modern geometry. I would look for a large brass pin hinge rather than a bolt/butt hinge type.
Yes, you can use dutchmen and bondo to fill old holes and cavities.
Clements is a good site.
Excellence is its own reward!
I got some excellent brass door hinges from http://www.clementhardware.com. They had an ad in FH. They were faster than the local Baldwin store, and less $$. Easy to order, fast delivery, no problem. I don't know if they have the size you want, but it's easy enough to look. You just click around a little and you'll get a nice concise list of what they've got.
Good luck,
B
Thanks, B -- I've sent them an inquiry about supplying all 160 hinges.

John,
Try Liz's Antique Hardaware in Los Angeles. They have a website if you're not from the area. I was there yesterday with my sister looking for glass doorknobs. They have it all- door knobs, hinges, fixtures, etc.
Here's the info off their business cards:
453 South La Brea
Los Angeles, CA 90036

Thanks, Jim --
That hardware store is maybe about 2-3 miles from my house.
