Well, its getting cold and I have yet to put a railing on the cedar deck that has been “weathering” for about 7 months.
Any advice on how to “brighten” it up before sealing?
Any advice on what to seal it with?
Any thoughts on how a cedar deck might look w/ a white composite railing system?
(can’t bring myself to invest the time in constructing a cedar rail system at this point!)
Got any ideas fellas?

Wash and light sanding. A myriad of sealing options, take your pick. As for white railings, I recently saw a composite deck that happened to be faux cedar with a white railing system. It actually looked pretty good. In fact, many of the new decks that I've noticed lately seem to be composite or wood decking with the white composite or vinyl-clad steel railing systems. With the price of cedar these days, I think it's a sensible choice.
Okay... really was feeling sort of guilty for putting a composite rail over the cedar deck.
Have recently bumped into "Fairway Vinyl" who makes a really nice composite railing system. Should look nice done in white over the sealed cedar ... the maintanence will be MUCH easier!
Thank you very much-

There are washes that are made as deck celaners that bring you down to new wood. Flood has one readily available. Spray it on, wait a bit, scrub it and rinse.
Then let it dry and do your sealer.
