I’m tired of cleaning the leaves out of my gutters, do these gutter guards really work or are they a scam? What does it cost per linear foot on a straight run? Is any brand better than the others and why?
Thanks everyone.

I do not have any long term data but I installed a product called Waterfall for a customer who is happy. Another contractor friend has used it also. It is a vinyl 10 ft section that slides under shingle tabs and is quite installer friendly. Seems like it was around $1/ft. The house next to the one I did got the Gutter Guard system, full deal with all new commercial downspouts, some fascia repair, etc. It was a medium to small house and was $4400. It was a very nice looking job and their warranty is they will clean any clogged gutters.
I have a mesh flip over type on the old section of my house and a fixed wire mesh product in 3 ft sections on the newer part that is fair but still catches some of the small trash. But I live in the woods.
Thanks for the info, that vinyl 10' type sounds like what I want, and if it doesn't work, I'm not out a bunch of $$.
Most of the products like this that I have seen did not attach all that well to the outer lip of the gutter. When I put 250 ft of this on I was finishing up on a 20' section that I had installed new guttering on and during a little brain flatulence I forgot to punch the downspout hole before I put the Water-fall on. It was really a trip to remove it so I would bet on it staying on well.

Good luck,

Thanks. I'll let you know how it works out. The price seems very reasonable for all of the trouble it's going to save me.
I have a gutter cleaning business in Minneapolis and we have a lot of pine trees especially in the Minnetonka lake area where we do a lot of work. We do install gutter guards for customers that insist on them but the needles still get inside and then the gutter guards just make the cleaning process twice as difficult.
Exactly my experience. After ripping up my hands trying to remove leaves and needles from under the gutter guards, I removed the gutter guards. If you don't have guards, then you know you are going to have to clean the gutters a couple times a year and that has the advantage that you have to go up and look at your roof and gutters a couple times a year. My guess is that there are plenty of Californians who now wish they'd looked at their roofs a couple times a year because now they no longer have roofs to look at.
