It’s been driving me crazy. My truck runs great and everything else is in good shape, but my doors are starting to rust.
We had the winter from H#$%, so that didn’t help either.
And now that it’s showing outside – they’re basically shot – there’s no body work short of cutting the entire bottoms off and welding in new sheet metal…
So I picked up some diamond plate aluminum – got a great deal here in town – 4x10x 1/16 sheets for $100 per sheet.
Cut and formed to fit the bottom of both door and riveted in place. didn’t bother painting over the rust – I figure they’re shot anyways – I just want to gain another year of appearance out of them.
Worked fine – I tried to use my 10′ brake for the larger door pcs, but not such a good idea… for the smaller pcs, I clamped between two pcs of square-edged 4×4 and hit the edge with a rubber mallet to get the crease and bend.
planning on doing the rest of the bottom of the truck, but don’t want rivets in the body, so I’ll wait till it’s warmer and use body-side molding tape to apply.
Figure I’ll at least caulk around the panels with some black ATV sealant.
I do not like driving up to a client’s house in a rusty vehicle – not a good look AT ALL.
This solves it for about a year or so I’d say.

PL Premium will work to glue them on, as well.
The 3M auto-body tape works great, and using the 3M adhesive remover - you can remove them if you want - no mess.JT
Where's the fun in that ?If it don't involve napalm in the removal stage, it aint fun.
....
wow! that looks nice.
I'm with you 100%, going to a client in a rust bucket, like showing up with 2-3 day growth on your face. You never have another chance to make a lst impression. 1st impressions are lasting impressions.
