Used Hamton Bay (Home Depot) track lighting system for first time and discovered that their floating connector does not fit into a standard ceiling box. Specifically, the mounting srews for the cover do not go inside the box but bind on the outer edge of the box. I took the unit back to my local Home Depot and they tried another one on one of their boxes with the same result. Their suggestion was that I take my Dremel and cut a slot in the box side. Problem is it’s a metal box and I’m sheetrocked in and 12′ up in the air! Of course Home Depot can’t/won’t link me up with the manufacturer so that I can tell them and failing the slot idea they suggested I tear everything out! Anyone else run across this problem?

I am pretty sure Home Depot owns Hampton Bay. Progress Lighting out of Spartanburg SC also makes some of their stuff and may ultimately have made the track lighting. The Hampton Bay addressI have seen on boxes is Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta GA. (As is corporate Depot) I would check information and give them a call or try a different store. We have 3 Depots in town, and I sometimes have to get info from a store I don't usually use.
Hope this helps.
