I need to install blocking for a grab bar in the bathroom, next to the toilet. The owner wants a level bar, not angled to catch studs. What hight should i put it at? I’m just a DIY’er helping out a friend. If it has to be angled, I wouldn’t see it from my house…

Ask the owner to show you where she wants it - it's pretty individual.
Men might want one on either side - women usually prefer them forward of the seat.

Besides a horizontal bar, an additional smaller vertical bar is often helpful. In many situations it can be held without having to "turn" your wrist to grab it...buic
In my experience, I always ask the user to sit down (or climb in the tub) and show me how they get up (or out). Then I place the bar where it works for them.
